About me

First of all, welcome to this platform. I am Marcello.

The first thing that you need to know about me is that I am a movement practitioner with a strong blend of interest in research and development in the field of parkour. I am passionate about developing different physical arts, training and living authentic experiences that can help me educate myself in all the fields I believe valuable and meaningful.

My practice has always been determined by a constant interchange of a more rational approach to life, constituted of academic studies and readings of all sorts, and a more open, creative and emotions-driven dimension.

Past and …future practices

From a very young age, I have been interested in exploring and navigating the environment. I always had a blend of choosing disciplines that made me dream. I have been thinking of becoming an artist, a warrior, a superhero and an explorer while surrounding me with other likewise individuals. This direction kept my motivation alive and brought me towards martial arts (tai-chi, judo), athletics (pole vaulting, running), games of all kinds, acrobatics, and ultimately Parkour in 2007.

Since then, I have faced the hardest challenges, growth a tougher skin, became conscious about the reasons why I practice and learned to look at people and surroundings in unconventional ways: taking the best out of nothing. I have developed an intelligent body and a strong mind, capable of transferring principles from the mirror of training into a balanced life.

This discipline shaped my being and it allowed me to build my personal integrity, independence and inner vitality.

With the years going by, I approached the Strength and Conditioning training too, developing a huge variety of tools to support my body in its development and allowing myself to stay injury free.

Since 2012, I started achieving the bigger picture of my personal development; observing at movement through a wider perspective. In this process, I have been constantly and deeply influenced and supported by a group of people. Specifically, the only ones I have ever met who were researching the same attention to the details, the same clarity and understanding I was looking for: the Ido Portal’s team.

In this present moment, I am moving my practice ahead looking forward to including new practices and unexplored paradigms in my journey.

One big axiom of mine is that of creating or elaborating and reshaping over cloning somebody else ideas. Blending my expertise in parkour with the knowledge I had the chance to gather from the best teachers around the world. This, always making sure to mention those who primarily conceptualised the material I am making use of.

I travelled a lot, to meet in person the most influential personalities of the many fields I am interested in. This always with a cautious approach towards those who claim to be the best out there. Simply because if you are the best… you don’t say it. You let your actions and results dictate it.

In my process of development, I want to make sure to provide orientation and guidance for those who want to start this movement journey with me or that are already travelling the way on their own.

Teachings

I have been teaching from the very first moment I have learned something. I believe that creating and sharing are two of the most powerful factors that enhance a real progression; and this is something that most of my current students do: practising AND teaching. Testing while doing, experimenting trial and error, failing and taking risks so that expertise can flourish.

I am the proud co-founder of ParkourWave, a successful organization mainly operating in Italy in many different cities, with the major focus on bringing Parkour to the public. ParkourWave is providing daily classes, workshops and national educations for coaches through the ADAPT qualification – of which I am also a certified tutor.  The experienced lived with the co-founders of ParkourWave, Federico, Riccardo and Giorgio were vital for me to become who I am today.

For the past several years I have been coaching classes on an ordinary base both in Italy and worldwide in some of the most important parkour events: Rendezvous (London, UK); International Parkour Gathering (Gerlev, Denmark); JungleWave Camp (Valbondione, Italy); Supreme Parkour Armageddon (Juvasküla, Finland) and more.

Until this moment, I have been shaping hundreds of people under my wings and I am not planning to stop. I want to give everyone (regardless of age, previous experiences, gender etc.) the chance to grow in this game of movement. I want the people around me to rise and shine and improve the quality of their lives, importing attentive, diverse and meaningful movement practices into it.

I am building different systems of development and I am providing workshops everywhere to share my views. (If you want to know more about this click HERE).

I will always be where the flux of information is moving forward riding new waves but also keeping myself rooted in my core principles and ideas.

Expect to meet me somewhere, anytime …I might be behind you now… check!

Learning by experience

Unless you missed it from above, by now one thing should be clear about me: I am studying from everyone, anytime. Either you are kid or an old wise zen teacher, you have my full attention if you have something interesting to share: from an old man in the small twisted roads of Tokyo; from the dust under the bridges during an urban exploration; from the sounds of the nature at night; from an old legend told by a kid in the dark forests of Italy; from listening to the hot wheels on my vehicle as I wait for the sunrise; from an alfa deer belling at 5 cm from my face and the sound of bamboos in the mist while I was preparing a fire.

Formal education

Getting education from the world is essential, but it can create many biases. This is why I did not limit myself to that, and I kept up my formal studies.

Formal education is capable of constantly shaping the mind and will challenge your critical thinking. That’s why I am in a continuous interrogation with myself also from an academic point of view. I have a Bachelor degree in Sports Science, acquired in Italy back in 2015. My thesis specifically concerned the different methodologies that can be implemented when teaching Parkour.

Currently, I am about to prepare my final dissertation for a Master of Science in Strength and Conditioning at St. Mary’s University (Twickenham, London, UK). After this? Maybe a PhD could be on its way…

What am I interested about

When I talk about having students, I don’t care about building a cold monthly relations or a one-time-only meeting. I love the idea of cultivating a community of like-minded people, that share the same passions that I have. I believe in loyalty, friendship, respect and support. Call me ancient-minded, but that’s how life works in my views. I am one with which you can build long life relations with.

On top of this, I do not make preferences. For anyone, at any time. I don’t care about your gender, age, previous experience or current state; and ultimately I don’t care about your talents. We are a talentless army. Here, we grow together in order to become the best possible version of ourselves. Not to compete. Not to show off.

So, if you came here with this mindset, please leave our tribe alone. I am sure you can find your space inside one of the many sporting federations and clubs available out there.

I am not here to motivate anybody, I am here to provide guidance and assist growth for those who love what they do and want make a difference out there.

Alone I am nothing, but together we are everything.

Special Mentions

I am currently living in Padova (Italy) when I am not travelling all over the globe. My closest family is comprised of two cats and my beautiful girlfriend Arianna. She is supporting me in all my projects, providing feedback, training with me, being ever present while asking for …nothing in return. We travel together and we live a full life, connected to this beautiful world we live in. I love you to the moon and back my dearest, without you everything wouldn’t be the same!

I have a brother, Matteo, and a cousin, Alessandro, that are my greatest inspirations when it comes to living a life connected to the natural environment. Together, we lived the craziest experiences. We explored all sort of terrains, lakes, caves, forests and mountains; making fires, running away from wild beasts at night and camping under the stars.

Lastly, I had the luck of being born from a loving mother and father that have always been supporting me; positively criticizing my actions at any stage of my development and stuffing me with all I could ever need. You never stopped challenging me and I will forever be grateful for this. To freely rearrange the speech of Bilbo Baggins (aka, one of Tolkien’s characters) during his birthday party:

I wish I will be half a good parent half as good as you are and love my sons or daughters more than half as much as I deserved from you.

Well, if you made it through this description, and you have some questions for me, you want to plan a workshop, you want to learn from me:
